Female deejays and producers have long existed in reggae and dancehall. Similar to other male dominated industries, these women are not featured in the headlines. Yet they are just as talented and successful. Behind the beats and productions of many of our favourite songs are the blessings of these phenomenal women.
One of many is ZJ Sparks, a powerhouse of confidence, style, and intelligence. Also known as Sparkle Baby, this DJ and producer is an integral part of the dancehall scene. Sparks is part of the recently released single by Ding Dong featuring Boyaka Smash, and Fryktion present “Fling Yuh Shoulda, Carnival We Love Remix”.
We were in awe by the level of talent on this track. Particularly, evident was the accents of each DJ and producer and the high energy production.
