We are all in need of emancipation. And often, the prime injustice is what we allow. Certainly, oppressive external systems continue to exist. But our internal denial of the current social climate and cultural segregation is what keeps us bound. Taking a dismissive path, even for their own pain, for many, slavery, racism, sexism, loss of love, and social and economic oppression are the events of yesterday.
And to rid the phantoms needs a simple affirmation, a solid education, and at best selective amnesia and a pair of new shoes. All that many will attest to being nothing more than a band aid approach to soulful injuries that are deeper than a flesh wound. And these types of calamities crosscut all races and social strata. To heal and have the confidence to continue the road less traveled demands we face and speak the truth. So, it is refreshing, like a cool breeze during an oppressive summer heat, that Mason di Emperor gifts us with this EP.

While every song is phenomenal, we like “Freedom”. And the dub version is one for the clubs. The background vocals are amazing, and the reverbs will make you feel like the choir is at the domino table. Maintaining the complexity of sounds, there is also an accent of pop, rhythm and blues, and a South African vibe.
