Tarrus Riley ft. Mykal Rose, Guess Who?
Tarrus Riley, “Singy Singy”, featuring Mykal Rose of Black Uhuru, present the reggae single “Guess Who?” a vibrant and relatable selection released November 2018 by VP Music Group. Produced by Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare, Shane Brown and Dean Fraser. One love to this rendition of the original by Mykal Rose, 1979.
Tarrus Riley and Mykal Rose represent all that is stellar in reggae, fashion, talent, and team work. Plenty style and fashion on this collaboration. From the lyrics to the visuals, we are left wanting more from the artists, the producers, the musicians, and the brilliant collective of talent behind the scenes including the costume designer, the cinematographer, the graphic artist, and the choreographer. Respect to the two actresses at the introduction of the video. It was a clever addition of blazing personalities.
We like this song for the global movement of music and life. And it being a reggae song is not limiting its marketability to the masses. To some extent, we can all relate that life is a serious business. No work, no money, no food, no love, no life. And while maintaining survival or achieving wealth we somehow must maintain the pristine cleanliness of our soul. Up till now, we often receive hard knock lyrics, dreary sounds, and grainy images of the meek minded perception of the struggle.
However, Tarrus Riley and Mykal Rose know we can tread the path and still look and sound fresh and clean like the Jamaican breeze and spring water. Serious business, serious talk and serious movements reflected in this song. A more creative and appropriate reality of the hustle taken with a fearless and judicious approach. While this is not a poor man’s song, if you are poor, just listen, watch, and move accordingly.
The instrumental and vocal arrangements are complex and refine. And the insertion of electronic waves, especially the drop at the bridge, is a brilliant expressive point illustrating the depth of the composition and sound engineering. This also provides a seamless fit with other genres and styles of music because there are multiple access points to make a melodic and tonal connection. As well, there is a visual channel through the cascading and crystallizing of the content because the music video reflects the depth of field in the sound.
With so much labour and talent present, we can only anticipate a lucrative return on the financial and relationship investment.
