Shams the Producer: At Large
Richard Browne, Shams the Producer, presents the extended play, Vinyl to Digital, featuring T.O.K., Wayne Marshall, Beenie Man, and Mr. Vegas. Released July 2018, this is Shams the Producer of B Rich Records third dancehall installation with VPAL Music, a division of VP Music Group.
Shams the Producer is all about speaking the truth, reality over ideology every minute and every hour of the day. And all we can say after hearing this EP is, “Come through, Shams the Producer, come through and take your rightful place at the frontline. We got you.”
Beyond the gift, talents, and developed skills, authenticity is the first note listeners detect. Certainly, the producers can knock us unconscious or entrance us with a blaring beat. While this is the easy road to quick success, soon enough, the effect wears off and so does our belief in them. And there are other producers, as Shams the Producer that take the road less traveled. As an outlier, it is a long road, which also means his identity remains obscured as he researches, applies, and refines his work. But when he finally moves forward, rarely does his success fade away.
We listened to two selections from Vinyl to Digital, “These Times,” featuring Wayne Marshall and “School Girl,” featuring Beenie Man. Both songs are lyrically, musically, and culturally sound and balanced. Overall the rhythm is a gritty streetwise fusion of Jamaican dancehall with a strong accent of South East Asian and an inflection of African percussion, a true masala, mix up and blend up. And the stellar team of artists all have the gift of excellence in vocal delivery, the great orators. Reminiscent somewhat of a reggae opera, Beenie Man’s collaborative effort represents elocution at its finest.
So, after listening to these two songs, we downloaded and played back to back the entire Vinyl to Digital along with Sham the Producers other catalogue with VPAL Music, Original Carbon Riddim featuring various artists, and “Why” featuring Vybz Kartel. Wow!!!
Touring the world with many other brilliant talents as Sean Paul, Shaggy, T.O.K., Anthony B, Gyptian, Ikea, and the Courtney John Project grants many opportunities. And as an artist, Sham the Producer never wasted a moment to study the nuances of every culture. Listening to his music, we can feel his experiences. Every work is an exceptional narrative. Quality sound recording and intricate mixes that is animated yet mature in expertise and seamlessly blended.
Like the subcultures of any great country, it is the rebellious nature of dancehall that is the driving force and building block of any economy. So yes, absorbing and reflecting this truth of all culture, Shams the Producer is one of the leaders in this genre. Through his travels and interactions, he speaks this truth sonically, so it is time to reap the financial and cultural rewards.©
