To speak of Lee "Scratch" Perry is an impossible task. We can only say thank you and respect. There are moments in time that will eventually become etched in history. While all is good, we often risk not having a true understanding of the depth of an icon as Perry and his iconic contribution to our global culture. Especially, in this era of information overload, even many great artistries are quickly overlaid by the continuous cascading of news. Therefore, it is an opportunity to be present during the evolution of greatness.
In Kingston, Jamaica, Perry, along with King Tubby, and Errol "Errol T" Thompson the first set of pioneers establishing the foundation of dub music, which later influenced the extended formation of electronic music. Innovators of sounds, these leaders fearlessly experimented with sounds and techniques from the late 60s.
So, today, over 50 years later, we are still inspired by Perry's work. He has over 84 albums and 962 writing and arrangement credits and counting. As such, the release The Black Album is appreciated and respected. Take the time to listen to it. For us, vinyl is the best choice to enjoy the warmth of the electronic vibe. But, we must admit, the sound engineering is supreme, so the atmospheric sound is still intact on digital streaming.
