Naomi Cowan presents her latest reggae single, “Paradise Plum.” Released by VPAL Music, May 2018, this song features the next generation of legends. After listening to this song, many will join in anticipating the debut of Naomi’s first album. Hopefully, it will debut later this year, under the same level of leadership and craftsmanship as this song.
Apart from her refined vocal ability and a magnetic personality, Naomi is an intelligent artist. As well, Teflon, the producer of this song and Zinc Fence Recordings, is an ingenious mix of talent and intelligence. Together, Naomi and Teflon deliver a song that smoothly blends the old and new sound of reggae music. But this is only the beginning of a musical marvel.
With the cultural and artistic transitioning of reggae music, we need a massive of smart leaders. It is good to know they are on a solid path. Because, the level of craftsmanship present in this song represents Naomi and Teflon’s dedication to leadership that is above an effortless reliance on talent.
Leadership begins with the art of listening. And it takes a certain approach to discern and reflect the nuances of the message to the masses. Anticipating the success of this joint leadership, there is something to celebrate when a song leaves the listener in anticipation. Cognitively perceiving it is part of an album, we remained still for the next instalment of the narrative to begin.
Rarely achieved is this mirroring technique between the artist and the listener. And when it is, it is a reflection of ingenuous mastering of artistry and technicality between the artist and the producer. As well, it is the genuine interest of Naomi to develop her talents through self reflection and collaborative efforts with like minded people. This level of two way communication is also only for the brave. But then again, only the brave can sustain success.
Confidently, Naomi’s iron butterfly vocals shatter our awareness. Appropriately placed at the forefront of the music, we have the opportunity to appreciate her vocal range and delivery of crystal clear notes, enunciated lyrics, and a brilliant play on accents.
As well, Teflon achieves a favourable balance between the vocals and the music. His musical composition and engineering of time and space is remarkable. The arrangement is powerful yet refine. In particular, the intro, refrain, and outro permit the listener to discern and reflect on the depth of Naomi’s vocals. Also, the reverb and the injection of the old sound, especially the toasting effect, and the backup vocals, are brilliant. His confidence in Naomi’s ability and the intelligence of the listener shines throughout the song.
It is plausible music is the primary form of social commentary with listeners receiving snippets of the daily news in the form of single deliverables. Many of these potentially brilliant works are lyrical and musical sound bites. While attention grabbing, they are also normalizing our short tempered way of listening.
Visionary centered, this production seizes attention by disrupting the standardize pattern. In addition to talent, it challenges the concept of a single being a static sound. This intricate and high level deliverable permits expansion into other songs.
We look forward to Naomi’s performance at Sumfest, 2018, and hopefully more collaborations with Teflon, in addition to an album later this year. Much respect to Naomi and Teflon.
