Jah9: Love Has Found I

Jah9 presents her latest reggae single, “Love Has Found I,” in honour of Empress Menen Aswafa, the wife of Emperor Haile Selassie. Released by VP Records and Steam Chalice Records, April 6, this song is steadily ascending the music charts and creating a media buzz.

Beyond being a talented lyricist and vocalist, Jah9 is a brilliant messenger. With every verse, the listener gets a little bit wiser. Jah9 gently, but firmly, shares some wisdom about life by simply being herself. Similar to the humming bird that visits your window for a few seconds before flying away, everyday you learn a little bit more about her beauty and appreciate her approach.

Far from intrusive, the truth is often a soft, yet, affirmative whisper. The same can be said about love. Resonating from within when we learn to discern the truth, it multiplies when we wisely share this gift, and collectively extend this love to the world. And, perhaps, Jah9, Clive Hunt, and Neil "Diamond" Edwards also follow this same principle, because universally, we are gravitating to the wisdom and beauty of this song.

From the first listen, we experience the relationship Jah9 has for her musical gift. As well, we witness the level of confidence and respect shared within the team. Like any other forms of expression, singing about ‘love’ places everyone in a vulnerable space. The beauty of this vulnerability is rarely expressed, especially by Black women. So we appreciate Jah9’s confident yet soulful delivery which, smoothly cascades over a prismatic musical composition. Particularly, during the wind and percussion instruments, Jah9 remains composed. Equally remarkable is the associated music video.

This production is a sincere reflection and appreciation of Empress Menen Aswafa’s nobility and her valuable contribution to this world. For us, the concept of balance is a key takeaway, which we noticed in the musical and visual narratives. Jah9 and the high level production team are committed to presenting artistic, historical, and cultural content. And centering it all in a responsible, financially driven and relevant social context is a complex task. Yet, through what we perceive as a strong work ethic and depth of character, we are gifted with this project.
